Magic Mushrooms Create a Hyperconnected Brain

Magic mushrooms may give users trippy experiences by creating a hyper-connected brain.

The active ingredient in the psychedelic drug, psilocybin, seems to completely disrupt the normal communication networks in the brain, by connecting "brain regions that don't normally talk together," said study co-author Paul Expert, a physicist at King's College London.

The research, which was published today (Oct. 28) in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, is part of a larger effort to understand how psychedelic drugs work, in the hopes that they could one day be used by psychiatrists — in carefully controlled settings — to treat conditions such as depression, Expert said.

I'll say this much from my own experience, I've never had more fun in my life in a van going to church camp. Long story... I'll save it for another time. Anyone else ever notice the scent of organic matter coming out of your pores after eating mushrooms? It could have been the pile of dirt I was laying in that I smelled while I was shooting my laser gun, so who knows on that note...

Those days are long gone now but the memories remain. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

The bitch is cool

Remember the new addition I told you guys about a while back?

The Pug-huahua?

I wanted to name her Tripoli, but got out numbered on the vote when it came up for discussion.

The offspring opted for Lilly Bean and she's an awesome dog. Her favorite spot is on my shoulder as I sit in my ridiculously overstuffed big man chair.

My youngest, the baby Velociraptor, calls her Wiwwy Bean...

She's learned to stay away from this dude, Bootsy B, my large bodied Maine Coon. There ain't nothing moving across The Backyard without his stamp of approval. That's just how it is. I often have a ringed-neck Dove waiting for me on the shower mat when I step out of the shower. No thanks buddy, Dove ain't really my idea of breakfast.

I'm envious

With rifle season now open in my area, I've been into some serious camo research recently trying to discover possible new patterns that blend well with where I hunt. In the animal world, your scent is what gets you busted long before sight does. Not much I can do about that except wear the clothes that have been out in the woods for the last 3 weeks soaking up all of Mother Nature's glory. As a stalk hunter, I've got to be the hunter who never was there.

The spider I posted yesterday was bad ass in his natural camo. I wish I could do it as good as this guy does it. I'm really glad these guys aren't 6 ft tall and have a taste for humans because you'd never see or hear him until he was all over you.

Wise decision

One World Trade Center opens today

It's finally done.

Thirteen years after the Twin Towers were destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001, the new centerpiece skyscraper at the World Trade Center opens this morning.

The path to this day was anything but easy or clear. Battles began almost as soon as the debris was hauled away in 2002 and, since then, there have been fights over cost, design, security and even the structure’s name. But still, the tower – a technological marvel sitting on piles driven more than 100 feet below the Hudson River – rose steadily out of the northwest corner of the WTC site.
