Soldier missing in action for 47 years returned to Texas

KILLEEN, Texas -- After almost five decades of uncertainty, the family of a soldier who went missing in action in Vietnam is receiving closure.

Members of the military and teams from the Austin Police and Fire Departments were at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Tuesday morning as Bill David Hill's remains arrived.

In September, Hill's family got a call saying a DNA test identified his remains 47 years after he disappeared.

Hill's nickname in the Army was "Tex." He served two tours as a helicopter gunner during the Vietnam War before he was shot down in 1968.

"It's more of a celebration than a mourning period," said Beverly Hill Jacobs, Tex's cousin.
