She's a goner

The Smoking Hot Little Barefoot Gardening Squaw has decided that her little poker pistol just doesn't suit her any longer. She wants something with a little more teeth. She's excited and wishes to venture into the 9mm arena. I suggested to her a Browning Hi-Power or a Beretta 92FS. What say ye manly men who look out for your ladies and encourage them to carry a loud rape whistle like the aforementioned high speed impalement devices? What are your gals shooting?

I've put my big ole' sandwich clamps around this thing and fired it off a few times. It makes me nervous, not gonna lie. I only get that uneasy feeling from it because it's so damned small in my banana hands.

M&P Shield 9mm. Softest shooting small 9 I've ever shot.

My hot little red headed soul stealer swears by her 9mm 1911. She has admitted that my pocket gun (Glock 26) is an acceptable substitute if she is wearing a mini skirt.

Love the nickname! Sounds like you've got your soul mate Gregg, I do too. Ride or Die! I've never experienced 9mm in a 1911. I will introduce us both to it while we browse. Thanks for the stop in today.

Mine carries a Springfield XDS in 9mm. She loves it. God help anyone who intends her harm.
My EDC is a Kahr CW9. Small frame, conceals easily, shoots nice.

That's a solid line of tools. Thanks for stopping by.

Not wanting to start a caliber jihad...

Many moons ago Mrs. Lumpy gave into my harassment and agreed to learn to shoot, just as long as I wasn't the teacher. She took a self-defense course for women given by a local range. During this time, she had the chance to try just about every handgun that would be considered a proper self defense weapon. She came home with a HK USP Compact in 45ACP. She said the 45 was easier to shoot than the .357, 38, 9 or 40; the recoil was more manageable (push vs. shove), less muzzle flash and the noise was tolerable. These last two are critical when inside and dark.

I understand the reasoning behind the 9, but give the 45 a look as well. Remember Drill Sergeant Joe B. Fricks Rules For A Gunfight, rule 24: Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than "4".

MC points out that it concealment (or on body carry) isn't as big an issue, she also likes her Sig 938 for purse carry.

Thing is, today there are a shitload of good, quality, small concealable and controlable pistols out there. Comes down to choice and preference.

Sorry about the typo

Mine has her S&W Mod. 60. But most importantly, her tongue. Unlimited ammo, and no reloading.

38 cal. 5 shot SS 3 inch revolver. Less complicated in both operation, and maintaining, and safer for less strong, smaller frame individuals.

We have many firearms manufacturers that make may different firearms. That being said, how does it feel? Especially for a woman, if it doesn't feel right, she will not like or use (practice with) the gun.

Go and try as many handguns as you can and try not to be an influence on her choice. Let her find the one that she likes (fits her hand).

Also, try the point ability test: hold the firearm in both hands, muzzle down, close your eyes and bring the gun up to what you perceive as a normal firing position and open your eyes. Are the sites aligned? If not, the gun is not fitting your hand well. Try another one or different grips. My preference here is a Browning Hi Power or Glock 19, I just like the hump.

Good luck and practice, practice, practice. And dry fire when you can't.
