Teen suspended for helping friend won't return to school

KILLEEN, Texas (AP) - A Texas teenager who was suspended from school after helping a classmate who was having an asthma attack won't return to the school, the teen's mother said Monday.

Mandy Cortes said she will home-school her 15-year-old rather than have him return to Gateway Middle School in Killeen.

Anthony Ruelas was suspended for a day last week when he disobeyed his teacher by picking up his classmate and leaving the classroom to carry her to the nurse's office.

The teacher had emailed the nurse when the girl began suffering the attack and fell to the floor. A disciplinary form explained that the teacher was awaiting a response from the nurse when Anthony uttered an expletive about not waiting and picked up the girl, Cortes said.

Sometimes you do what you have to do no matter what anyone says about it...

Bravo young man. He may or may not have saved her life. But who cares? He showed an urgency to respond and willingness to take action when everyone else stood around and watched her suffer while they were told to "wait". The kid's got heart. Piss on that school...

The district "applauds the efforts of students who act in good faith to assist others in times of need", buuuuuuuuuuut we have to suspend him because we're fucking idiots with no backbones.

Why in the hell did they even say anything at all? More of the covering your ass and taking the least amount of responsibility bullshit... Kind of like the victim/bully fighting thing. Both get suspended for a Zero Tolerance policy. They can point to the zero tolerance policy to cover their spineless inaction. To play dumb while allowing these things to escalate and destroy or smear the lives of innocent children is unconscionable. These fuck sticks, who are reminiscent of the populace in Idiocracy, just keep pointing to the rule book.

If you’re an administrator your purpose is to be fucking responsible. You idiots. This isn’t limited to children, of course, but cases involving them are the most jacked up.

Every adult involved in this situation should be stripped of all authority, publicly humiliated, and made an example of.

Any person can look at these situations and know that they’re not right. We need to stop this. It’s OK to be dumb. It’s not OK to pretend to be dumb. We have a system that allows this shit to continue. All that’s needed is for human decency and common sense to prevail. There are many people in positions of authority who could put a foot down at any point and stop these runaway bullshit trains. Nope, they don't want to. They only wish to protect their necks and not rock the boat... Fuck that, flip the boat over and see who can swim...

The teacher should have been calling an ambulance instead of waiting for the school nurse to respond to an email. I have asthma and it is deadly serious when somebody collapses from an attack. Kudos to this young man for acting.

An asthma attack led to respiratory failure for me and I wound up being air lifted to a hospital. If I had had my inhaler handy it would not have happened. This young man should have gotten a medal for his quick thinking. Good call, Mom. You have raised a great kid.

Flip the boat and see who can swim. I like that Stackz. I may borrow that, with credit of course.
